Famous nines -- Jamie Bestwick in good company

World of X travels to State College, Pa. to meet with X Games BMX Vert veteran Jamie Bestwick, who discusses his desire to remain at the top of the vert podium.

On Thursday, June 5, during the first night of X Games Austin, veteran U.K BMX Vert pro Jamie Bestwick will attempt the previously unthinkable when he goes for his ninth consecutive X Games gold medal in BMX Vert.

Should he accomplish this feat, it will be the first nine-peat in X Games history. A former resident of Nottingham, United Kingdom, Bestwick competed in his first X Games in 1996, balancing his BMX riding with a full-time job in the aerospace industry. After making the move to the U.S. to live and practice at Woodward Camp in Pennsylvania, Bestwick's decade-plus period of domination began, and it was rare that Bestwick was not atop the BMX Vert podium.

Now, with Austin approaching, Jamie Bestwick is the strong favorite in BMX Vert. And because the nine-peat is so rare across each sport category, XGames.com compiled a list of nines across sports and then into pop culture and beyond. Welcome to Famous Nines.
