Hibbert begins new snocross streak
Tucker Hibbert got back to his winning ways by sweeping both rounds of the AMSOIL Championship Snocross Pro Open class Friday and Saturday in Traverse City, Mich.
Hibbert had his five-race winning streak halted by Ross Martin of Burlington, Wis., last week in Deadwood, S.D., but the Pelican Rapids, Minn., rider notched career victories No. 75 and 76 this weekend and padded his lead atop the overall standings.
"I definitely was motivated this week. We had a pretty mediocre weekend last week at Deadwood," Hibbert said after his victory Friday night, when he finished almost 12 seconds ahead of second place Kody Kamm of Kenosha, Wis. Hibbert has won seven of the 10 main events this season.
Tim Tremblay of Ste Jeanne D'Arc, Quebec, finished third on Friday and second on Saturday to move into second in the overall standings, 62 points behind Hibbert.
"Today I had good qualifiers and a good main," Tremblay said. "Tucker's been fast every weekend and hopefully I can be up here again." Tremblay also got a vote of confidence from fellow competitor Levi LaVallee, who said from the ISOC announcer's booth: "You're going to see Tim on the top of the box here real soon."
Martin finished third on Saturday night, working his way up from the back row after getting into the main event by winning the last chance qualifier.
"I'm just thankful I got up here," Martin said. "Even through its third I'll take it."
David Joanis of Cochrane, Ontario, won the main event Saturday night in the Pro Lites to retake the lead in the season standings over Jake Scott of Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. Scott won Friday's Pro Lites class.
Rounds 11 and 12 of the eight-stop snocross season will take place Feb. 22 and 23 at the Seneca Allegany Casino and Hotel in Salamanca, N.Y.
