New music: Pepper

Tom Stone

Originally from Hawaii, Pepper is right at home on the beaches of their adopted home of Southern California. Their new, eponymous record drops Sept. 3.

Earlier this month, SoCal's own Pepper rocked the Irwindale Events Center stage to close out X Games Los Angeles 2013 -- a fitting tribute to the 11 years the event had been in the hub of music and action sports on the West Coast. The trio spoke to in advance of that performance and talked extensively about their forthcoming self-titled album, which officially drops Tuesday on Law/Island Records.

"On this album, I approach my writing a little differently to experiment with 'less is more,'" shares frontman Kaleo Wassman. "I think it's an album that can appeal to everyone," agrees drummer Yesod Williams. "We've been pigeonholed in the past, so this is an opportunity to transcend all that and spread our wings even wider."

But X Games fans don't need to wait until next week to hear the group's sixth record: We've got a sneak preview direct from Pepper, which you can listen to right here:

Pepper will begin playing their new tracks live for fans across the country as they kick off a tour Tuesday in Tucson, Ariz. Can't make the show? Pre-order "Pepper" on iTunes or through the band's website.
