Inside Aaron Smith's juice bar

Kink BMX pro Aaron Smith is consistently killing it on a bike, while also traveling, filming and having fun. Recently, Smith decided to try his hand as a small business owner in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, spending the spring time turning his idea of a juice bar into reality. Welcome to The Fresh Press.
In between opening The Fresh Press, Smith slides a Harvard area rail.
"The idea to open The Fresh Press kind of came out of nowhere," says Smith. "I have always been into eating right, juicing and overall living a healthy lifestyle. It wasn't until fall of last year that I really decided I wanted to pursue this."
Inside The Fresh Press
"It took a couple months to get a spot nailed down and put together a business plan. And once we got into our space, construction took two months," says Smith.
"My goal with the finished store was to keep it pretty simple. I wanted a modern 'hip' feel but also welcoming like a cafe," says Smith. "I want people to be able to come in and do work or have a meeting."
"Creating the menu happened through a trial and error process," says Smith. "I took a few of my menu favorites from other places I've been to and then put my own twist on it."
Fresh Press' menu includes a selection of juices, smoothies, wheatgrass shots, acai bowls and salads.
Acai bowl process
"Acai bowls are huge on the West Coast. I wanted to bring them here and hopefully they will grow to be as popular. They are definitely my favorite items on the menu. As for the process, it's picked in Brazil, flash frozen to preserve nutrients and then we get it. We blend it with almond or coconut milk and top it with fruits, granola and superfoods," says Smith.

Day to day
"It's been crazy since we opened," says Smith. "I come in at 7 to prep and we open at 8. Lunch during the week is always packed, then it chills out so I'll go riding around 3:30 or 4, then come back at 7 to clean up and close."
"Portsmouth is a cool little town that is super health conscious. It's growing like crazy and the tourist season is packed. I've always enjoyed living on the coast, so I figured this would be a good starting point," says Smith.
