Paul Rodriguez tops SLS prelims
MUNICH, Germany -- X Games fans watching the Street League Skateboarding prelims on Friday from the Bavarian-style biergarten inside Munich's Olympia-Eisstadion got a preview of Sunday's Street League final, with four-time X Games gold medalist Paul Rodriguez, two-time gold medalist Chris Cole and Brazilian sensation Luan Oliveira taking the top spots.
Nyjah Huston, the defending 2012 Street League champion, is sitting this contest out with a rib injury after winning all three stops on the 2013 Street League circuit so far in Foz do Iguaçu, Barcelona and Kansas City.
"Obviously we're missing a lot of the other guys this week, so it's not a full contest, but it still feels good," Rodriguez said. "Whoever is going to win this event this weekend in the back of their mind will know that Nyjah wasn't here."
Even with Huston out of the mix, Rodriguez and Cole said competition will be tough in the finals. "I expect the top guys from today will be my toughest competitors on Sunday," Rodriguez said.
Youness Amrani, the top qualifier from Thursday's SLS Select Series, took 13th and didn't advance past prelims. The top eight skaters from the elimination round advance to Sunday's final.
