Action Sports at the ESPYS
The 2014 ESPYS took place Wednesday night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Among the sports stars there celebrating the biggest awards night in sports were action sports athletes and nominees like Nyjah Huston, Tucker Hibbert, Vicki Golden and more.
Skateboarder Nyjah Huston cleaned up with the Best Male Action Sports Athlete Award. "Wow! So hyped," Huston wrote. "Thanks so much to all of you that voted! Couldn't have done it without you guys."
This was snowboarder Kelly Clark's sixth ESPY nomination. "I love coming to events like this," Clark said. "There are so many incredible athletes that you get to cross paths with, hear their journeys, then get more inspired to pursue your own dreams."
Snowboarder Jamie Anderson won two awards at the 2014 ESPYS: best female action sports athlete and best U.S. female Olympian. "I just won an ESPY for best action sports athlete along with Nyjah Huston!" Anderson tweeted afterward. "So thankful for the unbelievable year."
Two-time ASP World Champion surfer Carissa Moore was nominated for the best female action sports athlete category.
Halfpipe skier David Wise was nominated for best male action sports athlete and best male Olympian. He's shown here with his wife, Alexandra, who's expecting their second child.
It was halfpipe skier Maddie Bowman's first time at the ESPYS. The Olympic gold medalist and two-time X Games champion was nominated for best female action sports athlete and best female Olympian.
