52nd annual East Coast Surfing Championships
The 52nd annual ECSC
The 52nd annual East Coast Surfing Championships return to Virginia Beach, August 17-24. You could call it the East Coast's version of the U.S. Open, except it's actually been around longer.
You could call this an East Coast vs. West Coast shootout. California's Patrick Gudauskas (front) and North Carolina's Benny Bourgeois go blow for blow.
Michael Dunphy has been watching the ECSC since he was 5 years old. This year the event gives him a chance to catch up with friends and family after so much time on the road.
Patrick Gudauskas has been surfing well this year and hopes to take home anther big check in 2014, and perhaps another giant Vans Authentic. Because what good is one shoe?
This guy is always a draw. Vans will have Joel Tudor in the house for autographs, and perhaps some hanging around.
Kalani David is part of the Hawaiian contingent that will be on hand in VB on the hunt for points.
You can never count Nathaniel Curran out of the race. He made the semis at the recent Surf Open Acapulco.
Japan's Kaito Ohashi is on the verge of breaking into the top 100. His backhand surfing could get him there.
It'll be a busy week in Virginia Beach. Make sure you have your bearings.
