Ishod Wair is Skater of the Year
Ishod Wair wins 2013 Thrasher Skater of the Year
Last week, Thrasher Magazine announced the five finalists for the 2013 Skater of the Year, which included Real skateboards pro Ishod Wair (pictured here), Zero pros Tommy Sandoval and Dane Burman, Zoo York pro Brandon Westgate and Element pro Nyjah Huston. Huston released an online video part in coordination with Thrasher and DC Shoes in November, and he seemed to be the favorite leading into SOTY territory. But Brandon Westgate and Ishod Wair were not to be counted out in the final tally.

Following the completion of the 2013 Tampa Am competition in Florida, Thrasher announced the results for 2013 Skater of the Year. Despite the expectation that Huston would take the win, the 2013 Skater of Year title went to Ishod Wair. Wair became the first New Jersey-based skateboarder to win the coveted title, following a recently released section in the Nike SB Chronicles "Volume Two."

According to Thrasher, Wair's exploits in 2013 were heavy: "East Coasters (and their purist brethren) rejoiced at the release of his gritty Fourstar Wair 'N' Tear part, so happy to see Eastern Exposure-style pushing around from such a high-profile rookie of their own. With two killer videos (Nike Chronicles 2 and a Thrasher bonus part), stacked atop interviews in every magazine, Ishod's presence has been as prolific as it's been rabidly received," wrote Thrasher.

Wair, who was on a trip to Paris, France and recounting maneuvers he had made while playing the video game Tokyo Drift on Instagram, seemed to be in a bit of disbelief at the news that he had won Skater of the Year. "This is unbegreakinlievable," tweeted Wair.
Wair's sponsors reacted to the new almost immediately. Fourstar Clothing took the hashtag route: "#ISHODSOTY2013 #THATSWHATSUP #WELLDESERVED #CONGRATSISHOD." Real Skateboards took to Facebook: "Killing it so hard this year! Ishod is Thrasher's Skater of the Year! So stoked for you Ishod, you deserve it!" And Nike SB took the humble route: "All he wanted to do was film a video part and have some fun. Congrats Ishod."

On top of video accomplishments, Wair was also featured on the pages of Thrasher Magazine, in a 16-page interview in which he admitted to not being able to drive a car with manual transmission and discussed his impending move to Los Angeles. He also professed his love for his favorite skater, Rodney Mullen.
Nike SB Chronicles "Volume 2" video premiered during the first week of December via the Nike SB app, and is now available in the iTunes store. One watch of Ishod's section and it's easy to see why he was chosen as Thrasher's 2013 Skater of Year.
