When The Box in Western Australia turns on it's a sight to see. More mutant than perfect, it's a heavy wave that breaks in extremely shallow water. It also affords locals like Chris Ross moments like this.
At 15 years old Jack Robinson is considered to be the best and brightest of his generation. He just surfed in the Oakley Bali Pro against Kelly Slater, but he's also extremely comfortable in heavy waves that would have most kids his age freaking.
Stand firm, stand tall and don't let that lip take your head off. That's pretty much what it takes to make a wave at The Box, but Shaun Green knows that.
Sometimes just making it to the bottom of the wave is an accomplishment, but Ross expects more of himself as he sets up for the kegging barrel section.
The Box isn't the only quality wave in the area, North Point has its moments too.
In the words of the late, great Joe Strummer, "Death or glory." Bottoms up for Shaun Green.
The Box By Sea
It doesn't look nearly so scary from here (as long as you don't pay any attention to the Great White sharks that frequent the area's waters).
The hole in the middle of the ocean as enjoyed by Chris Ross.
The West Oz dream realized.
What, no takers?
Ross making this tube look a lot easier than it is ... but then that's the secret to good style, isn't it?
