2013 Pawa Tube Fest Invitational
The 2013 Pawa Tube Fest Invitational started off on the first day of the waiting period with solid surf in the triple overhead-plus range. Former world tour surfer Nathan Hedge locked into this one to get things started.
Former frequent visitor and now full-time resident Brian Conley adapted well to the tricky conditions and made the most of every opportunity.
The event judges and competitors had an impromptu meeting after the first day of competition to address some of the surfers' concerns regarding the format.

Round 2 was a bit of a logistical nightmare. Many heats were put on hold unexpectedly throughout the day as conditions fluctuated greatly.

The beach life down here is simple. Surf, eat, surf and sleep. When the contest leaves town it's just a handful of cabanas and restaurant-hotels in this quiet fishing village.
Perfect sunrise conditions welcome the surfers before competition resumed on Day 4.
This was the whole basis of the contest. Enjoy this view with just a few other surfers in the water.
Over the weekend crowds multiplied as residents from all over the area drove to the beach to watch the contest. Visitors hid under shaded cabanas and umbrellas while Nils Schweizer finds his own shade.

The final day of competition was extremely close with Gabriel Villaran coming up just shy of a win. He did however; find a few of the better waves on the final day.
The points from every round were carried over into the final and some surfers knew they needed to make up ground going into their last heats. Nils Schweizer was going for 10s trying to take a come-from-behind victory.

After a week of competition a winner is crowned. Nic Von Rupp of Portugal wins the first Pawa Tube Fest Invitational and is awarded $7,000 for his efforts.
