'Rip To Cabo 2017' behind the scenes
Rip To Cabo 2017
This year, the Monster Energy Rip To Cabo presented by Honda Motorcycles & ATVs returned for another jaunt down the Baja Peninsula, featuring the likes of Jackson "Jacko" Strong, Ricky Brabec Racing, JCR/Honda boss Johnny Campbell and 2000 World Surfing Champ Sunny Garcia joining the Desert Assassins. The show premieres on ABC's "World of X Games" on Sat., August 5 at 2:30 p.m. ET, but here's a quick look behind the scenes.
Adventure in the making
Rip To Cabo is an off-road motorcycle adventure unlike any other kind in action sports, including terrain. "Put your hands on a table, and have someone hammer it with a mallet all day long," says the Desert Assassins. "That's what it's like to ride down here."
The trip, which clocks in at 1400 miles total, goes from the Northern tip of Baja California to Cabo San Lucas, and it's done in just seven days.
Spring is in the air
"Spring is in the air, the flowers are poppin' and the Baja Peninsula is boomin,'" says Rip To Cabo creator and host Cameron Steele.
Hitting the open desert
"We'll see some of the most beautiful terrain you can find anywhere in the world," says Steele of the trip. That includes the Baja desert.
All a part of Baja
Aside from the open desert, the Rip To Cabo riders also hit some of the more technical and rocky routes on their way to their destination. "It's all just a part of riding Baja," says Steele.
"For me, this trip is a passion," says Steele.
Not all off-road
Sometimes, the lunch spots involved surfing.
Ripped To Cabo
Riders on the Rip To Cabo arrive at the end of their journey in Cabo San Lucas.
Yes, there's a crew that follows to fine-tune bikes along the way. Between the harsh terrain and the harsh weather conditions, the Rip To Cabo is rough on bikes.
