World Cup gold in US continues Lassila's strong Olympics build up
In only her second event since winning a bronze medal in Sochi three years ago, Australian Lydia Lassila has taken out a World Cup aerial skiing event in Deer Valley, Utah.
Lassila beat fellow Australian and world champion Danielle Scott in the event, as she ramps up her attempts to make her fifth Olympics next year in Pyeongchang.
Lassila says her only expectation from the meet was to keep building towards the Olympics.
"I was emotional all day and I had a good feeling. I couldn't believe I won," she said.
"To be honest, I was happy to stay on my feet."
She was last to jump in the super final and needed to score almost ten points more than what she had scored in the first final.
Lassila executed brilliantly and was awarded with 95.52 points and a World Cup gold.
"This is the feeling that I missed and came back for," she said.
"It's not the winning so much - it's being able to do your best, the pure adrenalin and the fun."
